Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Books I Picked Up On A Whim

Hey everyone, I’m back with another Top Ten Tuesday πŸ™‚ This week’s theme is books that I picked up for a random reason, like seeing it on a shelf and liking the cover.Β

This is a weekly meme held byΒ The Broke and the Bookish. Check out their blog if you get a minute because this blog hop is fab πŸ™‚

All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

I picked this one up at Waterstones during the first week of its release, not really knowing anything about it. I’m so glad I did though because now it’s one of my all time faves. I highly recommend this one, it’s heartbreaking and beautiful and ahhhh.

The Year of the Rat by Clare Furniss

23652426

This is another one I found at Waterstones and bought it because the cover is pretty. I read it a while back but it was a very meh read, nothing special. It’s not that it was bad or anything, it just fell a little bit flat for me.

After by Anna Todd

Aha… yes. Well, I kept hearing online people talk about some random 1D fanfic and how it was being turned into a movie, so I checked it out not thinking much of it. Four huge books later and here we are, even though I originally read this series on Wattpad.

The Improbable Theory of Ana and Zak by Brian Katcher

23149938

Again, I found this one during my random strolls around my local Waterstones. This one is actually quite funny with a lot of nerdy humour. The storyline isn’t anything solid or life changing but it’s a nice light read if you’re looking for one.

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie

693208

You know… I can’t even remember where I bought this. But again, I’m so glad I did! I love this book because of how hilarious it is, even though it discussed some quite serious issues.

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black

I feel like this one might have come up on my suggestions on Amazon and I bought it because the cover is so cool and intriguing. And it certainly was both of those things, plus thrilling and glamorous. This is a vampire book which you should definitely read.

How to Be Bad by E. Lockhart, Lauren Myracle and Sarah Mlynowski

23629114

I bought this one because I freaking loved We Were Liars by E. Lockhart but I couldn’t even finish this one, I didn’t even get half way. I couldn’t get into the story and I didn’t connect or care for any of the three main POV characters :(((

The Fire Sermon by Francesca Haig

25665352

Have any of you seen the cover of this book? IT IS STUNNING. I’ve not read it yet, but after I saw it advertised on Goodreads I knew I needed it on my shelf. It looks good there sandwiched between Champion by Marie Lu and The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.

I know this list is a little short but I thought it would be boring to keep listing books which I bought and haven’t read yet. Have you read any of these books, what do you think of them? Again guys, thank you so much for reading! πŸ™‚

  1. I love it when people tell what they have read, are reading or are going to read! I copied down the titles of two you mentioned for my To Read list.
You mentioned the Night Circus being on your bookshelf. I read it years ago and liked it so much I had my library book club read it; it was a big flop! No accountin’ for some people’s tastes. ha!
One you liked that I didn’t care for was Diary of a Part Time Indian. I realized it was supposed to be hilarious, but I couldn’t get past the language and put it down after a chapter. (A little “generation gap setting in here I think. We Seniors can’t accept and skip over “bad” language as easily as you “young people” do. Ha ha!
Keep on letting us see the covers too. I am fascinated with cover design and am always interested to see if the novel or book “matches” the cover.

    1. Thank you for your lovely comment πŸ™‚ And I totally agree, I love chatting with people about what they’ve read and are currently reading. I read the first chapter of the Night Circus recently actually but I have so many review books I need to read so I’ve had to put it aside for now. I’ll definitely go back to it though! Glad you liked it πŸ™‚

  2. I picked up All the Bright Places on a whim too and really liked it, so I’m glad to see you liked it too! And I just finished my first Holly Black book a few days ago, and I am so excited to read more of her books. The Coldest Girl in Coldtown sounds like it would be a great follow-up! Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous post! ❀

  3. Hey, I loved your list. Sometimes the cover looks too tempting to resist a book. I will be reading “The Improbable Theory of Ana and Zak” for a light read for sure. I am on a reading spree and your blog is surely going to help me pick interesting books πŸ™‚ And yes, thanks for liking my blog post.
